June 25, 2010 by Ephemera Society
The Ephemera Society hopes that these examinations of the relationships between art and ephemera, ephemera and art, may stimulate creative juices to flow in others. And this conference will provide an opportunity for participants to create their own art incorporating ephemera, under the tutelage of two experienced instructors, on Sunday morning from 9:00 to 11:00 am. Materials for this adventure will be supplied.
Book signings at 5:00 pm Friday:
David Jury, Graphic Design Before Graphic Designers
Caroline Preston, The Scrapbook of Frankie Pratt
Cynthia Hart The Oral History Workshop
While we have endeavored to put together a conference that touches upon quite a few aspects of the relationship between art and ephemera, not all such could be presented in the short time available.
One additional interesting one is this: ephemera can be and has been used as primary evidence of provenance for works of art. Letters from artists, dealer invoices, gallery labels, auction receipts, ledgers and other forms of ephemera sometimes help determine whether a work of art is genuine. And for that reason, forgers sometimes create fake ephemera in their attempts to deceive! Art imitating life imitating art?
