Virtual Mid-Year Event

Ephemera Presentations will be Friday August 13th at 2 pm and 3 pm (EST)
The enthusiastic response to our January preview and our March conference has prompted the ESA to plan another virtual event — an afternoon of ephemera via Zoom, followed by members-only early admission to a virtual fair organized by Marvin Getman.
On Friday August 13th, two ephemera professionals will share experiences with collections institutional and personal. Then at 4:30 pm (EST), Ephemera Society of America members get first crack at shopping the fair (which opens to the public Saturday at noon and closes at 8 pm Sunday).
Meet our Speakers:
2:00 pm Paul Erickson, Randolph G. Adams Director of the William L. Clements Library at the University of Michigan, will discuss the rewards of opening researchers’ eyes to the power of ephemera — from trade cards to sheet music to broadsides to pamphlet fiction. Many researchers come to special collections libraries not knowing what “ephemera” is and not thinking it will play any role in their project. As a professional, Paul’s primary goal (and challenge) is to create spaces for scholars to encounter unexpected materials in library collections.
3:00 pm Beth Carroll-Horrocks, ESA Board member and Head of Special Collections at the State Library of Massachusetts, will take us through her personal collection — over 18,000 rulers on an astonishing variety of paper ephemera.

and will continue through Sunday, August 15, 2021 until 8:00 PM
